The Real Reason Your Cost-Per-Call Is So High
By Jiasmin Akter
When a junk removal owner tells me their cost-per-call is too high, the first thing I check isn't the bids. It's the negative keyword list.
The tire-kicker problem
"Junk removal" as a keyword catches a wide range of intent — from someone who wants a same-day quote to someone researching how to dispose of a mattress themselves for free. Without a strong negative keyword list, you're paying for both.
Common culprits I find in almost every new account:
- "free junk removal"
- "how to junk removal" / DIY-intent searches
- "junk removal jobs" (people looking for employment, not service)
- City names outside your actual service radius
Same-day urgency is your advantage — use it in the ad
Junk removal is often a same-day or next-day need. Generic ad copy ("Professional Junk Removal Services") doesn't communicate urgency. Ads that lead with "Same-Day Junk Removal — Book Before 2pm" consistently pull higher-quality clicks, because they filter for people who need it now.
Call tracking changes everything
If you're not tracking which keyword or ad actually generated each phone call, you're guessing at what's working. Once call tracking is set up correctly, it's common to find that 20-30% of "budget" is going toward a handful of underperforming keywords that never should have been left on.
If your cost-per-call has been climbing and you're not sure why, this is usually where it starts. Book a free audit and I'll show you exactly where your budget is leaking.
